I founded DesCodeuses 5 years ago, based on my own experience of professional transition. After a 10 year career in the banking sector, I decided to come back to my passion : coding. During my training, I realized that I was the only woman with an immigrant background, who grew up in a disadvantaged neighborhood. I could not rely on any female developers’ community so I decided to create my own : DesCodeuses.
Since 2018, we provide training sessions for women from disadvantaged areas in France, to become professionals in programming, cybersecurity and cloud computing. DesCodeuses aims to transform women’s social trajectories to bring the news faces of
Tech’ out. Today, DesCodeuses’ impact relies both on the trainees and the companies hiring them : 90% of these women are employed, which enables them to increase their income by 40%. On the other hand, 98% of our partner companies are satisfied with their recruitment and the collaboration with DesCodeuses.

QuoteWith DesCodeuses we aim for systemic change ! According to me, all women, no matter their social background, must be able to access future technical jobs. Within the next 10 years, we want to have systemic impact on poor women’s lives. First, by reducing women’s poverty in disadvantaged neighborhoods and working for their economic emancipation through their professional inclusion in tech (ODG 1). DesCodeuses also allows women to access free quality education, in a field that is male dominated and usually requires engineering degrees (ODG 4). By favoring the recruitment of women in tech’ teams, DesCodeuses tackles the gender equality challenges faced by companies and society as a whole (ODG 5). We aim to get 30 000 women in employment in the tech sector and to change recruitment processes to make them more inclusive. The integration of more women into the labour market in positions that are highly valued, with good working conditions and decent wages is also a way to work towards (decent work and economic growth (ODG 8). Finally, DesCodeuses aims to reduce gender and territorial inequalities, by targeting inequalities specifically affecting women of working-class neighborhoods (ODG 10), facing discrimination on the labour market.
