I am so passionate about the vision behind Valiant Lingerie – to be a brand that supports people in the years following a life changing diagnosis or surgery after they have been discharged from medical care. I first became aware of the gap in the market as a result of seeing my mum struggle to find lingerie after she had treatment for breast cancer in her early thirties. Decades later, I realise that the market hadn’t moved on as a result of my own experiences when I had a double mastectomy in my early twenties. Over the years I spoke to so many people who were facing the same challenges and I realised the scale of the problem. I love speaking directly to our amazing community of customers and they drive me to keep creating and to strive to achieve my ambitions for the future of Valiant Lingerie.

I feel really strongly about the importance of role models and increasing opportunities for women to realise their ambitions. Michelle Obama said "No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half its citizens." I couldn’t agree more! There are some pretty sobering statistics out there around the additional barriers women face to starting or growing a business. But the Rose Review in 2019 identified that advancing female entrepreneurship represents a £250bn opportunity for the UK economy. Michelle Obama’s quote reminds me of the importance of tenacity and versatility as a female business owner but it also reminds me to connect with, support and champion other female business owners because what we are doing matters.
