Introduction

Belgium’s social economy demonstrates diverse levels of digital maturity, reflecting differences in organisational size, sector focus, and internal capacity. The DiGi-SEII Project report highlights both strengths and challenges for Belgian SEs and SESOs navigating digital transformation.

Key Findings

Analysis of eleven organisations revealed:

  • Three SESOs demonstrate structured digital maturity.
  • Most SEs (six out of seven) use digital tools sporadically and without integration.
  • Digital potential is recognised, but adoption is constrained by limited time, resources, and skills.

Strategic Recommendations

  1. Develop contextualised and progressive training tailored to organisational maturity.
  2. Embed learning into practical, operational projects.
  3. Promote pooling of tools and resources across the sector.
  4. Secure long-term funding for tools and human support.
  5. Strengthen interface roles bridging social needs and digital solutions.

Implications

Digitalisation is not a stand-alone goal; it must remain aligned with the organisation’s mission, beneficiaries’ needs, and collective sector dynamics. Belgian SEs and SESOs can use this evidence to plan strategic adoption and improve operational efficiency.
