From Teaching to Policy: A Diverse Career Path Billy Groom’s professional journey is nothing short of inspiring. With a background that bridges education, policy, and governance, Billy has accumulated a wealth of experiences that shape his current role at Euclid Network as a Project Manager for Impact Management and Measurement.

Starting in education, Billy worked as a drama and English teacher, leading workshops and teaching abroad as part of a UN program in Chile. He later transitioned into governance, working with a Member of Parliament in the UK on various projects, including a significant integration initiative. His academic pursuit led him to the Netherlands, where he earned a Master’s degree in governance and lectured at Erasmus University, further expanding his expertise in research and participatory democracy.

The Drive for Meaningful Impact Billy’s commitment to making a difference stems from his mother, an active figure in education and environmental projects. However, a defining moment in his professional growth was his time teaching English in Chilean communities through the UN’s English Open Doors program. Immersed in a different culture and language, he rapidly adapted, developing crucial skills that continue to influence his work today.

If you have to do something challenging, you grow quickly. That experience really shaped me.

Had Billy not pursued his current career path, he envisions himself working in local politics—an area where he believes real, tangible change happens. For him, empowering people at the community level is one of the most rewarding aspects of governance.

Finding Joy in the Everyday Beyond his professional life, Billy finds happiness in the simple things: spending time with his Greek rescue dog, Babuki (or Bookie for short), and enjoying a perfectly poached egg on toast.

His journey to Euclid Network was motivated by a desire to be at the intersection of policy, network building, and impact. The dynamic nature of the organization allows him to apply his diverse experiences while working in a growing sector with room for innovation.

It’s mentally stimulating and fulfilling. If you’re working every day for the next 40 years, it should bring you joy.

Who Would He Dine With? If given the chance to have dinner with anyone, Billy’s top choices would be Tony Benn, the late UK politician known for advocating for the underrepresented, or Data from Star Trek, whose inquisitive nature and analytical skills would make for fascinating conversation (and some handy data analysis!).

Looking Ahead: Exciting Prospects at Euclid Network Billy is eager about the opportunities at Euclid Network, especially the chance to work on diverse projects across Europe. Whether it’s building an online platform, fostering community engagement, or collaborating on impactful initiatives, he finds immense fulfillment in seeing projects grow from inception to tangible results.

Billy Grew’s journey is a testament to the power of adaptability, purpose, and passion. Whether in education, governance, or impact measurement, his drive to make a difference continues to shape communities and inspire those around him.
