Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Sotiris Themistokleous, co-founder and Director of Strategic Development at CSICY, to discuss the organisation’s journey in digitalisation and its broader mission.
CSI Cyprus: A Hub for Social Innovation
Founded in January 2017, CSI Cyprus operates as a for-profit social enterprise specialising in diverse areas such as fundraising support, capacity building, digital transformation, diversity management, and corporate social responsibility initiatives. The organisation is particularly committed to disability inclusion, gender equality, and environmental sustainability, striving to enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities. With three offices across Cyprus (Nicosia, Limassol, and Paphos) and an impressive team of 60 full-time employees, CSICY extends its reach far beyond the island, impacting communities in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the USA, and Uganda through its social innovation and entrepreneurship programs.
Digitalization as a Driving Force
Sotiris Themistokleous is at the helm of CSICY’s digital transformation initiatives, navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging technologies. While acknowledging the initial hurdles associated with digital adoption, he highlights the long-term benefits of integrating digital tools into organisational workflows. CSICY’s approach to digital transformation is twofold: selecting the right technological tools and fostering a culture that embraces change.

CSI Cyprus harnesses a variety of digital tools to optimise its operations. Key platforms include CRM systems, Microsoft Teams, and G Suite, which facilitate communication, marketing, and collaboration. Additionally, AI-powered tools are increasingly utilised for content creation and task automation, enhancing efficiency across the board.
The organisation also collects and analyses data on various aspects of its operations, including social impact, outreach, and partner collaborations, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
Addressing Challenges in Digital Adoption
One of the key insights shared by Sotiris is the learning curve associated with digital tools, especially for social enterprises. Many of the organisations CSICY supports struggle with complex platforms and require more intuitive solutions tailored to their specific needs. Some of the most effective tools identified include video conferencing platforms and AI-assisted content development applications, which streamline operations and improve engagement.
