CSI Cyprus joins us with a compelling mission and vision, bringing fresh insights and proven expertise in social innovation. Founded during a time of significant economic crisis in Cyprus, CSI was born from a passion to bridge business with social responsibility and empower communities worldwide.
In a recent interview with one of CSI’s founding members – Sotiris Themistokleous, we had the chance to delve into the organisation’s beginnings, current projects, and aspirations for its journey with Euclid Network. Their story is one of resilience, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of positive impact.
The Inspiration Behind CSI Cyprus
The story of CSI Cyprus is rooted in a realisation shared by its founders during a challenging period for Cyprus and Europe. Amid economic instability, they observed a disconnection between the business sector and society’s needs. They saw that traditional business approaches were no longer serving the common good, so they decided to create an organisation that would redefine the relationship between businesses and communities. CSI Cyprus was established to bring forward a new model of social innovation, aiming to address pressing issues such as economic inclusion, environmental challenges, and community welfare.
“Our vision was to use social innovation to bring market and civil society closer, creating a model where businesses work for the benefit of all,” Themistokleous explained. “We believe all businesses must have a social agenda, or the divisions in society will only deepen.”
CSI’s Current Work: Empowering Communities Globally
Since its founding eight years ago, CSI Cyprus has grown into a powerhouse of social innovation, with a team of 60 professionals running over 120 projects across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Their work ranges from supporting youth and women’s entrepreneurship to promoting STEM education for young girls and encouraging active participation in democratic processes.
One of CSI’s primary missions is to support social enterprises, especially those led by underrepresented groups. CSI offers resources and mentorship, helping these enterprises gain traction in the market. It’s a collaborative approach based on mutual learning, where both CSI and its partners benefit and grow together.
CSI’s initiatives are aligned with a shared goal: improving the quality of life in local communities and enabling them to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. The organisation’s belief in partnerships and collaboration is evident in the relationships they build with local and international NGOs, bridging diverse communities and fostering a spirit of unity and resilience.
Why Euclid Network?
Joining Euclid Network marks a new chapter for CSI Cyprus, as they seek to expand their impact and engage with like-minded organisations across Europe. For CSI, this step is the culmination of years of growth, partnerships, and a commitment to making a difference.
