3 November 2022 – The EU3Digital Consortium is proud to release an innovative and comprehensive policy paper issuing recommendations to the European Commission to support Social Enterprises and Third Sector Social Organisations in advancing their digitalisation.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, third sector organisations (TSOs) and social enterprises (SEs) were forced to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and undergo digital transformations. However, the lack of visibility, limited resources and access to knowledge, digital and technical skills challenged the digitalisation of the third sector.

With this in mind, the EU3Digital consortium launched the Policy Paper: Support for Digitalisation of Social Impact in October 2022, during the Training on Developing Organisational Digital Capabilities for Third Social Sector Leaders hosted in Barcelona, Spain.

This policy paper shows how digital competences can improve the action and impact of the third sector. It also points out that actions at both the European Union and Member State levels are essential to boost digital skills, tools and competences of the third sector.

With this policy paper, the EU3Digital consortium issued recommendations to the European Commission and aimed at informing other relevant stakeholders in their initiatives for developing digital skills and competences in Europe’s social economy ecosystem.

The policy paper also identified three key priorities to support TSOs and SEs in their digital transition:

  • Promote the visibility of TSOs and SEs
  • Ensure access to skills, knowledge and competences of TSOs and SEs
  • Improve access to finance and investment for TSO and SEs

The Policy Paper was published as part of EU3Digital, a project funded by Erasmus+. EU3Digital develops learning resources for social enterprises to increase organisations’ digital competencies, advance digital strategies, help them to engage with existing digital support and thereby build capacity.

The outputs are produced by the project consortium partners including international social enterprises support organisations and research institutions. The consortium is led by ESLIDER and consists of The Open University, ABD, University of Porto, D Kolektiv and Euclid Network.
