Euclid Network Annual Conference 2013/14

The Euclid Network annual conference, Chartering Into The Future, took place on 15 January 2014 at the Conseil Général du Bas-Rhin, Strasbourg (France), and was a recognised event of the European Commission's Social Entrepreneurs: Have Your Say! (Strasbourg, 16- 17 January 2014).

Euclid Network’s conference focused on how civil society and social entrepreneurs can come together to find solutions together. Whilst attending interactive workshops, the participants worked together to solve five concrete challenges from across Europe.

With over 150 participants, it was a comprehensive experience, focusing on the four Euclid benefits of learning, piloting, advocating and networking.

Learning

During the conference, participants discussed the five challenges, developing and sharing new ideas. Discussion groups offered insights into the issues behind the challenges.

Piloting

Challenges were defined through an open-call for proposals which was launched on 9 September 2013. We provided guidance on framing the challenges, such as local, practical, accessible issues and also referenced the themes of the European Commission's workshops, such as improving the access to funding, increasing the visibility of social business. However, ideas were not confined to those themes.

The people with the strongest challenges were invited to attend our conference in order to present their challenge to participants and lead the discussion on potential solutions.

Advocating

The best ideas were presented to our Panel of Experts - local, national and European - at the end of the day.

Concrete recommendations about policy were collected throughout the conference and fed into the EC's event the following day.

Networking

During lunchtime, civil society organisations and social enterprises ‘showcased’ themselves.

We also offered ten social entrepreneurship cafes around Strasbourg, led by our partners & members, on interesting topics on the evening of 15 January.

Reception hosted by British Council

Following the conference, British Council hosted a reception at 17:30 in the foyer of the Conseil Général du Bas-Rhin. British Council brought an international perspective to the discussion on social enterprise and showed a short film, with footage from their work in Myanmar, China and Indonesia.
